What are Text Ad Exchanges and How Can I Use Them to Promote my Business?

Anyone who uses Text Ad Exchanges has heard this a lot: "Text Ads Convert Better". Is that true? Yes...well..it depends! But first of all, What do you mean by that...?

If you're not sure what a Text Ad Exchange (TAE) is, go here to see one: http://www.wild-adz.com (that's our free TAE, Wild Adz). TAEs are a popular among Internet marketers because they offer several different types of free advertising.

Members sign up because they want to post their own ads for free. Once they sign up they can post text ads, HTML ads, traffic links, banners and solo ads (solo ads are email ads that are sent to all members of the exchange).

It's called an "exchange" because members can get free advertising credits for their own ads by viewing the ads of other members. What happens is this: You open my email each day and read the messages sent to you by the Wild Adz mailing system. Inside each message there is a link you can click to view a member's website. You get credits for doing that. There is a timer that counts down while you're viewing the site & it let's you know when the credits have been placed in your account. At that point you're free to view more, if you like.

Another way you can earn credits is to log into Wild Adz and view Text Ads, HTML Ads, & Traffic Links and by clicking on Banners. Once you have enough points you can exchange them for advertising. If you prefer, you can purchase ads whenever you like - We recommend you do this whenever you don't have much time for clicking and you have something HOT you need to tell everyone about!

So that explains a bit about what TAEs are. Now back to our other questions...How Can I Use TAEs to Promote My Site?

Well, since members are looking to earn points to exchange for advertising, they are going to view a certain number of ads. Not all members log in every day, but the traffic stats at Wild Adz indicate that there is quite a large amount of daily activity. Obviously we have no control over who comes to the site & when (it's international & open 24 hours a day), but as an advertiser you can rest assured that your ads are there for everyone to view.

Here is how long the different ads last:

Text Ads - these ads last 24 hours & they are free to all members (Free members can post one per day, Pro members can post 10 per day) -- by the way that's 10 DIFFERENT ads -- please don't post the same ad more than once in the same 24 hour period (makes the site look "spammy"). You need to have a few credits in your account because each time someone clicks on your ad 1 point is deducted from your points balance. (It's an ad "exchange", remember? You earn points for clicking members' ads and you pay points when others click your ads.)

Text Ads are simply that - text - up to 100 characters including spaces. You need to be short, sweet & to the point. Grab their attention!

HTML Ads - these ads last 24 hours & they are free to all members (Free members can post one per day, Pro members can post 10 per day) -- again that's 10 DIFFERENT ads. Each time someone clicks on your ad 1 point is deducted from your points balance. Not all TAEs have HTML Ads, and many who do have them don't offer 10 per day, even to their Pro members. (I like to be generous!)

HTML Ads allow you more flexibility than plain text ads. You can do something as simple as making your text colored, highlighted or bold, or you can put up a "splash page" complete with images, banners, graphics, etc.

Traffic Links - these ads last until all of the "clicks" you have paid for are used up. If you buy a Traffic Link with 200 views, it stays there until 200 members have viewed it. That's nice because you don't have to keep going back to the site each day to post it again. These are similar to Text Ads because there are no graphics.

Solo Ads - these are "one-time" email ads. You write your ad copy, submit it for approval, and once approved it is automatically sent to every member. You don't need to worry about losing your emails to spam filters because all of our members have agreed to receive emails from the system. Believe me, there are some members just waiting for your solo ad to come through - they want the points! You can use colored text, highlighting & bold in your solo ads at Wild Adz (but no graphics - those crazy solo ad clickers are most likely coming to view your site, anyway...)

Banners - these rotate through the system on a random basis - your banner will stay active in the rotation until the number of impressions you paid for are used up. For example, if you pay for a banner with 1,000 impressions, it will stay in the system until it has been shown 1,000 different times. That's not 1,000 CLICKS...it's 1,000 SHOWS...but if you have an attractive banner that makes people want to click it, your site will get viewed.

Our own advertising that we do through Wild Adz gets a high percentage of responses - We've compared notes with other TAE owners & members, and we're happy with the responsiveness of our own membership list. (Your own success will depend largely on your ad copy, the look of the site you are promoting, and several other factors that are out of everyone's control...but if you have nice, classy ads and sites, people will be attracted to them.)

Here is the question everyone asks: Which Type of Ad is the Best?

That's not easy to answer. There is a saying among TAE owners & members, "Text Ads Convert Better".

It depends on what you mean by "convert". If you mean that people viewing text ads are more likely to click through to a website, as opposed to people viewing banners, we agree...simply because many people are "blind" to banners. They simply don't notice them anymore. However, a catchy banner title and an interesting graphic will still grab attention.

If by "convert" you mean the ratio of site views to actual sign-ups or sales...we don't think it matters what type of ad brought you to the site - if you're looking at the site and you like what you see, you'll sign up or buy. But it IS true that text ads, in general, will get you more site views than banner ads...so the saying "Text Ads Convert Better" can be said to be true.

So which types of ads should you be posting at Wild Adz? ALL OF THEM. Why? Because you never know what someone is looking for, and when they will be looking for it. Some of our members never log in except to post their own solo ads. They only view email solo ads...but some members view these EVERY DAY, rain or shine!

Some people go against all of the "rules"...they are enticed by graphics...they love clicking banners...they sign up at banner exchanges because they simply adore clicking banners.

Others log in to Wild Adz each and every day and post their Text Ads & HTML Ads, and then they view all of the Text Ads & HTML Ads that are in the system to get points for their own ad views.

Some members prefer Traffic Links - there is a higher view/points ratio for these ads. In fact, when Wild Adz first opened its doors and the Traffic Links were a bit sparse, we even got emails asking "Where are all the Traffic Links???" Some people just love them.

So if you want your ads to be seen by more people, set up all of the different types of ads.
